Now there are purple plants, and then there is the Strobilanthes dyerianus: the epitome of PURPLE PLANT. Commonly called Persian Shield due to the shape of its leaves, the Strobilanthes dyerianus' deep purple leaves have a silver iridescence, and are bordered by a dark green border.

Light Requirements

Depending on your light situation, you may want to monitor this plant's reaction to the conditions. Light that is too low for the Persian Shield will result in a leggy plant, while light that is too harsh, will result in burned leaves. A bright indirect light will help to maintain the plant's shape without burning those beautiful leaves.

Water Requirements

Persian Shields like to be consistently moist (not wet!). I like to give these plants a bit of water frequently, as opposed to drenching them and allowing them to dry out. These plants will also thrive in an environment with higher humidity. Give the Persian Shield as much humidity as you can! Note: Be sure not to let the plant sit in pooled water as that can cause root rot.
