One of the more famous, or infamous Calatheas. The Calathea White Fusion is STUNNING! But we don't have to tell you that. Just look at the pictures! Soft white and green colour each leaf in brushstroke-like lines. The undersides of some of the leaves showcase a pale purple tint, which signifies the classic Calathea colour. However, the purple is softer and paler than other plants in the Calathea genus. Another plant for The Painted Leaf collection.

These plants tend to be lower-growing plants commonly found as ground cover in a jungle. With that knowledge, their water and light requirements in the following tabs make sense.

As part of the Marantaceae (prayer plant) family,  these plants also move their leaves in a praying hands method throughout the day. It is awesome to see their leaves in different positions in the morning and at night! These plants can be difficult to get the hang of, so be sure to read the water and light requirements in the other tabs!

Pet lovers will be happy to know that these plants are non-toxic. But please don't let cute little Lulu nibble these beautiful leaves!

Note: Plants are unique! The plant pictured is meant to give you an idea of the specification and quality of the plant you will receive, but will not be an exact replica.

Light Requirements

Low to Medium

People with lower light settings will be happy to know that this plant prefers lower light settings. Direct light is a no-no, medium light is best to maintain the white variegation, but they also do well in lower light, albeit with some loss of the white colour. In its natural habitat, this plant is often shaded by taller plants/trees.

Water Requirements

Moderate

Calathea plants like to be consistently moist (not wet!). If the plant dries out too much, then it can result in pests. I like to give these plants a bit of water frequently, as opposed to drenching them and allowing them to dry out. Important: These plants tend to be sensitive to water with chemicals and minerals. Tap water may cause these plants to get brown tips. If possible, water your plant with rain water, filtered water or water that has been standing for at least 24 hours. It is also important to water them with room temperature water. Try not to get water on their leaves as this can result in fungal issues. Note: Be sure not to let the plant sit in pooled water as that can cause root rot.

David Laurin
Calathea lietzei - White Fusion

Ordered 2 plants; 4 inches each. Showed up in good shape. The soil did separate a little from the pots during shipping, but not to the point of dehydrating the roots. This did require me to re-pot them, which I was going to do anyways. Had them 1 week now, both plants are doing well. I did mist the leaves for a few days with reversed-osmosis water, it seems to help. Not sure how big these plants can get and how long to mature height. I do have a Calathea exotica which is 15 inches high.

Thank you David! And glad they are doing well. These can get big and bushy with constant care. Not super tall though.
