Stromanthe sanguinea
Couldn't load pickup availability
Sister to our mascot, the Stromanthe triostar, the Stromanthe sanguinea is extremely similar. This plant is perfect for the plant-lover who likes a more classic look, with a showy contrast. The backs of the leaves are a vibrant reddish brown colour, which is a stunning contrast from the deep green leaves. One more stand out is the centre strip of lighter green. One major difference is that there is no pink on this plant.
Like prayer plants (maranta), these plants also move their leaves in a praying hands method throughout the day. It is awesome to see their leaves in different positions in the morning and at night! These plants can be difficult to get the hang of, so be sure to read the water and light requirements in the other tabs!

Pet lovers will be happy to know that these plants are non-toxic. But please don't let cute little Bougie nibble these beautiful leaves!
Note: Plants are unique! The plant pictured is meant to give you an idea of the specification and quality of the plant you will receive, but will not be an exact replica.

Light Requirements
Light Requirements
Medium to bright indirect
Direct light is a no-no, bright indirect light is best, but they also do well in medium light, although perhaps slightly greener. In its natural habitat, this plant is often shaded by taller plants/trees.
Water Requirements
Water Requirements
Moderate
Stromanthe like to be consistently moist (not wet!). If the plant dries out too much, then it can result in pests. We like to give these plants a bit of water frequently, as opposed to drenching them and allowing them to dry out. Important: These plants tend to be sensitive to water with chemicals and minerals. Tap water may cause these plants to get brown tips. If possible, water your plant with rain water, filtered water or water that has been standing for at least 24 hours. It is also important to water them with room temperature water. Try not to get water on their leaves as this can result in fungal issues. Note: Be sure not to let the plant sit in pooled water as that can cause root rot.
